Credentialing Application and Exam Fee Reimbursements
OASAS oversees the credentialing of all professional substance use counselors and prevention practitioners in New York. To receive a professional credential, individuals meet specific eligibility requirements and pass appropriate examinations. This ensure the addiction services workforce are competent, ethical, and skilled in meeting the needs of today's society.
Credentials:
- Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) including Problem Gambling Specialty Designation
- Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) including Problem Gambling Specialty Designation
- Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS) including Problem Gambling Specialty Designation
- Credentialed Problem Gambling Counselor (CPGC)
Mandatory one time training for initial and renewal CASAC applicants.
Mandatory one time training for initial and renewal CPP and CPS applicants.

Applicants with an expired credential may apply to be reinstated.
